Why Your Home Office Chair Isn't the Problem (It's Your Desk Height)
Published: March 07, 2026
Struggling with back pain or fatigue at your desk? Before buying a new chair, check your desk height. Most off-the-shelf desks don't fit average ergonomics. Tip 1: When seated, your elbows should form 90° when on the desk—if not, adjust desk height or use a keyboard tray. Tip 2: If you're using a laptop, don't raise it without lowering the keyboard; use a separate keyboard and mouse. Tip 3: Stand occasionally—even 2 minutes per hour reduces strain. Tip 4: Use a footrest if your feet don't rest flat. Tip 5: Measure your body: desk height should be roughly elbow height when standing. A $200 chair won't fix a desk that's 4 inches too high.
