Motion sensor LED strips transformed my kitchen workflow - here's what I learned
Published: February 22, 2026
After installing motion sensor LED strips under my cabinets, I discovered a few things that might help others:
Key insights:
• Motion sensors work best when placed at counter height, not cabinet bottom - gives better detection range
• Warm white (3000K) is perfect for food prep, cool white feels too clinical
• Battery life varies drastically based on traffic - high-use areas need rechargeable options
The biggest game-changer was having hands-free lighting while cooking. No more fumbling for switches with messy hands or trying to prep in shadows.
One tip: test the motion range before permanent installation. I had to adjust placement twice to avoid false triggers from walking by.
TL;DR: Motion sensor under-cabinet LEDs are worth it for convenience, but placement and color temperature matter more than you'd think. Warm white at counter height works best.
