Fixed my squeaky treadmill in 10 minutes - here's how
Published: February 22, 2026
My treadmill started sounding like a dying mouse, so I finally tackled the problem. Turns out it's usually one of three things:
Most common fixes:
• Belt alignment - If it's drifting to one side, it's rubbing against the frame. Use the rear roller bolts to center it.
• Lubrication - Dry belt = squeaky belt. Lift the belt and apply silicone-based lubricant (NOT WD-40) underneath.
• Tension adjustment - Too tight or too loose both cause noise. Should have 2-3 inches of lift when pulled up.
I started with lubrication since it's the easiest fix, and boom - silent running again. The whole process took maybe 10 minutes and saved me a service call.
TL;DR: Squeaky treadmill? Check belt alignment first, then lubricate with silicone spray, and adjust tension if needed. Usually fixes 90% of noise issues in under 15 minutes.
