Curly Hair, Tiny Head: What No One Tells You About Caring for a Baby's Coils
Published: March 07, 2026
Most baby hair routines fail curly locks because they treat them like straight hair. After months of trial and error with my daughter's 3C curls, I learned: moisture isn't enough—sealing it is key. A lightweight leave-in alone won't cut it; we use a water-based detangler followed by a butter-based sealant in small sections. Also, satin is non-negotiable. Cotton burp cloths and crib sheets cause major frizz and breakage—switching to a satin bonnet and crib cover made a visible difference in curl definition and length retention.
Most 'baby-safe' products are too diluted to help textured hair. Look for glycerin-free, creamy cleansers and avoid foaming shampoos—they strip natural oils. Curly hair starts young, and so should the care.
TL;DR: Seal moisture, use satin, avoid foaming cleansers for baby's curly hair.
